Application Period 

Challenge Launch - February 16, 2022

The challenge launches on February 16, 2022. Between February 16 and April 7, 2022, you are invited to assess your organization’s readiness for the challenge and register.


Registration Deadline - April 7, 2022

Before submitting an application, your organization must register by Thursday, April 7, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. United States Central Time.  Only registrants can submit an application.

Application Deadline - May 17, 2022

Once registration has closed, registrants will have five weeks to submit their applications. All applications are due by Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 4:00 PM United States Central Time.


Review Period 

Administrative Review - May 18 – June 8, 2022

Over a period of several weeks, staff will review each application to ensure that it complies with the requirements and rules.

Evaluation Panel Review - June – July 2022

During this period, members of the Evaluation Panel will review and score their assigned submissions using the scoring rubric


Selection Period 

Selection of Finalists - July – August 2022

Informed by the results of the Evaluation Panel, up to 10 finalists will be chosen. A shortlist of applicants may be asked to provide additional information about their proposals and organization during this period. 


Project Development - September – October 2022

Finalists will work with LEGO Foundation and advisors to develop their proposals before award selection. Finalists will each receive a planning grant of DKK 6.5 million.


Award Announcement - December 2022

Selecting from the finalist organizations, LEGO Foundation will provide at least three awards of DKK 200 million (approx. USD 30 million) each and two more awards of DKK 100 million (approx. USD 15 million) each.  


Technical Assistance - December 2022 – March 2023

Finalists will receive additional intensive technical assistance to strengthen their projects in topics such as strategy and theory of change; monitoring, evaluation, and learning; diversity, equity, and inclusion; accessibility; and more.
